Tuesday August 5th Injuries Causing me to drop out of August Races

I suffered some injuries at and after the Forge the Gorgeous 7 miler.  On my last Tuesday run I had not realized I had some small injuries that led to bigger ones.  I suffered an ankle sprain, torn muscle and a stress fracture.  The ankle feels much better after treatment but the foot is the worst part right now causing me to drop out of any August Races.  However I am going to try and make it back for The Run 4 the Woods On August 23rd.  This is also the day of the 2nd Annual Family Fun Day for Luckysmiles.org!  Good Luck everyone at the Great Race this weekend.  I am disappointed I won't be joining you!  Good Luck Team Munchkin!

Sunday July 27 2008 Forge the Gorgeous Survival!!!

Well, I ran my first race of the year in New York last Thursday.  It was the Forge the Gorgeous 7 miler.  Man the weather was awful and the course was scary but yet fun.  After mile 5 another runner and I got lost and plummeted down into the ravine causing us to go from 5-6th place to end up 15-16th.  I remember sliding through a broken tree down onto the rocks.  Man what a day!  It was very challenging given the conditions but right now I consider it the most fun run I have ever done.  Even though I look like I am beat up now!  Our photographer sent us some pics of what he took from the run.  It was also nice to see another fellow Syracuse runner that I had met last year at Kevin Collins 1st Marathon training seminar.  Hope to see you out there again soon!

I haven't been really thinking about racing of late but I stumbled upon an interesting race coming up this Thursday.  I think I may go out and jog it for the heck of it.  Feel free to check it out!

Sunday July 13 2008 Blog is Back!/ Dehydration in Summer

Hello all!  I am finally back after the Children's marathon.  I needed some down time to rest afterwords.  I suffered some minor complications that I ran through during the marathon because of all the heat and hills.  The only way I was able to do it was through proper hydration.  This may only work for me but this is what I do.

Middle of the Night

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night in the summer to a dry mouth?  That is a indicator right there to a runner.  On long run days in the summer.  I normally get up around 3am and have a half bottle of water/powerade. Maybe even a trail bar quickly then back to bed.  I then get back up at 6am and have a piece of toast with peanut butter and another half bottle of water/powerade mix.  Then right before I run a do another swig down of water/powerade mix.  This has saved my life many a time.  Today I ran an 11 mile run with my sister and I was very cool and not sweating for the duration.  Meanwhile I spoke to my sister about hydrating because she is burning out early in longruns due to heat.  What I do may not work for you but you do need to know how important it is to hydrate during even a day where you think, "Ah it's not that hot!"  Be careful out there!

Government Clearing House on Dehydration

Please take the time to visit the government clearinghouse on dehydration for some good details on different variables of dehydration.  Many symptoms maybe underlying.  Also Alcohol truly effects your run the next day so be cautious!

Saturday June 28 2008 Thank You All Who Came Out!

I would like to thank everyone that came out to our first annual family fun day at Marcellus Park today.  Special thanks to Luckysmiles.org and the lucky family for coming out.  Thank You Jon Hickey for limping around and collecting donations.  Thank You Kate for the wonderful balloon animals you are a life saver!  Thanks to my family for pitching in and doing all the various jobs needed to make the day a success.  Thanks To The Kelley Family for coming out and helping and Donna for all your hard work!  Thanks DOM for your great magic!  How do you do that disappearing coin trick?  If I forgot anyone I am sorry I am still tired from the Run!

Thanks to the Runners

I would like to thank Nate Donaleski,  and Jeremy West for keeping me running the entire 26.2 miles.  After being in the hospital Tuesday, I had thought that there was no way I would have made it.  Thanks to Meg and Alex for running the last 4 miles with us through some interesting scenery.  Thanks Mom for driving the support vehicle and Uncle Jay for taking pictures!

Still Time to Donate

The rain kept many families away and kept donations low.  If anyone is still interested they have another 30 days to donate.  Donations close July 28, 2008.  Go to http://www.firstgiving.com/golisanosyracuse  for details!

Pictures will come soon right now I need a nap after that run!  Thanks All!
